It was an honor and a profoundly spiritual experience to be part of the successful launch of the first selected Buddha Sutra from the Tripitaka. This event was not merely a ceremonial launch but a monumental effort in preserving and promoting the Dhamma, achieved through a unique collaboration between two of Sri Lanka’s most historically and culturally significant temples: Gangaramaya Temple (Colombo) and Matale Aluviharaya.

The initiative was aimed at bringing these foundational Buddhist scriptures to a wider audience, echoing the ancient tradition while utilizing modern platforms.

The Weight of Ancient History: Matale Aluviharaya

The significance of this launch begins with our partner, Matale Aluviharaya.

This sacred site holds a pivotal place in the history of Theravada Buddhism; it is the very location where the entire Tripitaka (the three baskets of Buddhist scriptures: Vinaya, Sutta, and Abhidhamma) was first committed to writing on palm (ola) leaves in the 1st Century B.C.

By collaborating with Aluviharaya, we ensured that this modern launch was deeply rooted in the authentic lineage and unparalleled heritage of the Buddhist doctrine.

A New Chapter at Gangaramaya Temple

The launch event was held at the iconic Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo, a central hub for Buddhist learning and charitable works. The temple’s serene and beautifully lit environment provided the perfect setting for this spiritual milestone.

We focused on the launch of the selected Sutra, which is a discourse directly delivered by the Buddha, meant to provide guidance and clarity on the path to enlightenment. The evening was filled with:

• Dhamma Deshana (Religious Discourse): Addressing the deep meaning and contemporary relevance of the Sutra.
• Ceremonial Handover: Marking the official commencement of the Sutra’s wider distribution.
• Blessings: Led by Venerable monks from both temples.

It was inspiring to see the dedication of everyone involved, from the clergy and temple committees to the technical teams who ensured the content was presented flawlessly to the hundreds of devotees present.

My Contribution and Looking Ahead

Being able to contribute to an event of this magnitude—bridging 2,000 years of history and spiritual practice—was immensely rewarding. My role involved coordinating the logistics and communications between the two venerated institutions, ensuring the historical weight of the project was matched by the professional execution on the day.

This is just the first Sutra in an ongoing series, and the success of this launch has energized the entire team for future projects.
